What nutrients do plants need?
The ultimate goal for all hobby gardeners is faster growth, excellent flowering and greater yields. This can only be achieved if the plant is supplied with sufficient nutrients. The most important nutrients include potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus, also known as macronutrients. Without nitrogen, neither leaves nor shoots would develop sufficiently. Phosphorus is also indispensable for plants as it is involved in numerous metabolic processes. Only when a plant is sufficiently supplied with phosphorus is it resistant to diseases. Potassium is a nutrient that plants need to regulate water balance.
Secondary nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and sulphur are also important for optimal plant growth. All these nutrients are present in varying concentrations in Hesi fertilisers and boosters. Do note that although these are the general needs for plants, every plant and every species do require special nutrients. We recommend always researching and checking the specific requirements for your little green friend (especially with foreign plants like cacti or tropical plants).
Hesi fertilisers and their specialties
- Fertilisers
- Boosters
- Combipacks
Hobby gardeners surely know: plants require a different composition of nutrients during the growth phase than during the flowering phase. That's exactly what our fertilisers entail. For example, the TNT Complex provides plants with all the additional substances they need for healthy growth. For lush flowering, the Bloom Complex was created. PK 13/14, for example, is a fertiliser that promotes large flowers. During the flowering period, the plant has an increased energy demand and requires more of the macronutrients phosphorus and potassium than usual. PK 13/14 is the ideal fertiliser and gradually increases the concentration of potassium and phosphorus during the flowering period. This way, the plant receives exactly the concentration of nutrients it needs during flowering.
But we not only offer products specifically for the growth and flowering phases of a plant. For an extra energy boost, for example, you can use SuperVit. Just one drop in about five litres of water is enough, and the plant can absorb nutrients from the soil much better. You will be amazed at how the vitality of your plants is enhanced. Truly magical drops for your plants! You can visit our product page to review all of our products in more detail.
What are growschedules?
A guide to optimal fertilisation in all growth phases can be downloaded from the Hesi website. It actually makes a huge difference whether you fertilise indoor plants or those planted outdoors. Let's take a closer look at indoor plants as an example. For a cutting to develop ideally and soon become a sturdy plant, it needs certain nutrients, especially during the growth phase. Hesi Root Complex is the ideal starter product, which should be applied once or twice a week in combination with Hydro Growth. Once the plant begins to flower, Hydro Bloom fertiliser is applied. This is also when PK 13/14, with a particularly high concentration of potassium and phosphorus, comes into play. Hesi Boost is the advised fertiliser when the flowering growth needs to be accelerated. However, SuperVit and PowerZyme are two products that are beneficial to the plants in every phase. However, use them sparingly to avoid over-fertilisation. In addition to the right fertilisers, also ensure adequate lighting. If natural daylight is not sufficient, special plant lamps are helpful. Please also note that our grow schedules are created for growing and flowering plants. If you aim to grow tropical houseplants without the flowering stage, you need to adapt the growing schedule to your liking. In this specific example you would leave out the blooming phase and its products and continue the growing stage with products like TNT Complex, Root Complex and SuperVit.
How do I apply Hesi products correctly?
Each product comes with detailed instructions for optimal dosage on the bottle and also on our website. For most products, a very small amount is sufficient, for example, for PowerZyme, 20 millilitres per ten litres of water. We focused on this during the creation of our products, since the user can get the most out of already one bottle of Hesi fetiliser.
It is essential to strictly follow these dosage recommendations to avoid over-fertilisation and its associated consequences. It is all about balance in a plant's diet.. just like our own ;)
So, proceed slowly and observe closely how the plants react to the given fertilisers. Brown and yellowed leaves are often a clear indication that you have been a bit too generous with fertilising. However be careful: yellowing leaves can also be a sign of overwatering in general.
Even if the plant refuses to grow during its growth phase, it could indicate excessive fertiliser. Have you noticed a white crust on the potting soil? This is likely a mixture of salt and nutrients that prevents the plant from absorbing enough water.
Of course, the fertilisation schedules are only a rough guideline, which you can easily deviate from since every plant is unique. So, observe your plants closely. If you notice signs of over-fertilisation, reduce the amount of fertiliser.
Avoiding over-fertilisation
When fertilising, remember: more is not always better. It is essential to strictly adhere to the dosage recommendations of the respective fertiliser. A small example: plants need more potassium than usual during the flowering period because this macronutrient is needed for photosynthesis. However, giving too much potassium can lead to a magnesium deficiency. A lack of magnesium, in turn, would hinder photosynthesis. Selecting the right amount of nutrients is essential, and it is easily achievable with Hesi fertilisers.
Conclusion
Hesi fertilisers are the first choice for hobby gardeners and anyone looking to become one. Even if you are not blessed with a green thumb, these products will help you get the most out of your plants. This applies to growing fruit and vegetable plants in your home garden as well as indoor plants. Good luck with growing your plants with Hesi fertilisers.
